What makes us different?

Nature is a 16 year old agency with offices in Melbourne and Sydney.  Over this time we have grown steadily to cater for growing demand, achieving an enviable record of both client and employee retention.

With a strong boutique ethos and working style, our guiding beliefs and principles are the same today as when we started.  At their heart these are about putting our clients first and adapting around their needs, delivering on our promises, working collaboratively to produce great results, and fueling excellence through passion, curiosity and inquiring minds.

We’re the agency to work with if you’re after a partner that consistently delivers the methodological excellence and robust research and analytics needed to underpin important decisions, with insights delivered in an accessible easy-to-understand way.  What really sets us apart though is the care and passion that supercharge the Nature approach to client service.

We’re the agency to work for if you’re after an employer who cares about your professional and personal development, if you want greater control over your success and want to exert greater influence over your environment, and if you want to be part of a winning team.

What we do and how we’re different:

Our expertise is widely recognised, recently being finalists for a number of research effectiveness awards, both Australian and global.

We are firm believers that a close consultative and collaborative working relationship with our clients yields results.  This is about taking the time to understand precisely why we are being asked to help, then developing the right conceptual and analytic framework for the matter at hand.  At its heart, this is about listening and seeking to understand first, and then designing around the need.

We’re all about doing great research in a way that is easy for our clients and stakeholders. Among other things this means speaking in your language not ours, making the process smooth and seamless, sticking to our promises, and being accessible.

For 15 years, Nature and The Lab have been collaborating to take to the market a seamless full service integrated quantitative, analytics, qualitative, culture offering.  The intention has been to retain our independence and uniqueness, yet harness our complementary strengths to cook up something special.

Over the last 15 years we’ve completed 100+ projects together and have together been joint grand finalists at two ESOMAR Research Effectiveness Awards.  Our shared work varies from small to large and simple to complex, and is highly varied across topic area.  We’ve worked together on many types of challenges too – from reestablishing brands, developing new products, mapping consumer journeys, supporting complex business cases to driving transformations. We also run our own joint projects to help understand the context we are working in.

At its core, the relationship and our joint work is all about leveraging our dovetailing skill sets.  Whilst each agency has particular methodological specialism, our collaborative success is partly attributable to the fact that first and foremost, we are each problem-solving consultancies that address client briefs by drawing on multiple sources of data.  Integration and fusion are already embedded in our respective DNA, making working closely together easier than it might otherwise be.

What we’ve set out to create in working together is an offering that’s normally only available in large full service agencies, yet with all the benefits of the nimble and agile ways of working that smaller agencies possess.  This agility is partly about problem-solving nous and having the latitude to design around the brief rather than force fit brief into agency solution.  And it’s partly about a way of working with clients that is in all respects client-centric.

Simplot’s Marketing Manager – Insights, Alastair Liptrot, says of The Lab / Nature relationship …

“The Lab & Nature have completed numerous projects on our behalf over the past 10 years. We value the collaboration & way of working between the two firms as it means we benefit from having best of class in both styles of research. Beyond the research, the partnership seems to bring out strategic thinking that comes from how both firms use learnings to build form one another”.

And about our work and working style, AIA’s CMO Renae Smith says …

“I have used the combined Nature/Lab offering for two major engagements over the last 5 years – one at GE, the other at AIA.  In each case the project leads worked as one at the beginning of the engagement to design the right program of work to address our brief, and then the teams worked together seamlessly to execute the project.  By choosing to work with Chris and Paul and their teams, we were able to access best-in-class methodological skills, all wrapped up in a single offer.  What really made it possible was the way the guys collaborated and worked together both with each other, and us as the client”
